PRIVACY POLICY AXEL SPRINGER ACADEMY

We are very pleased about your interest in the Axel Springer Academy. This privacy policy informs you about the nature, scope and purpose of the personal data we process and your rights as a data subject.

3. ACCESSING THE WEBSITE

When you use our offer, we automatically set absolutely necessary cookies and collect and process the following information to enable the usability of the functions provided and to ensure the security and stability of our offer:

– Information about the accessing end device and the software used.

– Date and time of access

– Websites from which you access our website or which you call up via our website

– IP address

The processing of your IP address is absolutely necessary to enable the delivery of our offer to your end device. The legal basis for the data processing is Art. 6 para. 1 lit. b DSGVO. Our servers also store your IP address for up to 14 days for the purpose and in the interest of ensuring the security of our offer. The legal basis for this is Art. 6 para. 1 lit. f DSGVO.

In the interest and for the purpose of being able to offer our website in multiple languages, the use of cookies or comparable technologies is absolutely necessary. For this purpose, we use the services of OnTheGoSystems Limited, 22/F 3 Lockhart Road, Wanchai, Hong Kong (hereinafter referred to as WPML) with whom we have concluded an order processing agreement. We remain responsible for the data processing. The legal basis for this is § 25 para. 2 TTDSG and Art. 6 para. 1 lit. f DSGVO.

4. PLACE OF PROCESSING

We also process personal data in countries outside the European Economic Area (“EEA”), including the USA. Insofar as no adequacy decision of the European Commission exists for the respective third country, we have concluded the standard contractual clauses of the EU Commission pursuant to Art. 46 para. 2 lit. c DSGVO to ensure an adequate level of data protection with the services used in third countries: Standard contractual clauses

5. STORAGE PERIOD

We process personal data only as long as this is necessary for the respective purpose stated in this data protection declaration. The personal data will then be deleted, provided that there are no legal retention periods that prevent the deletion of the data.

II. YOUR RIGHTS A A DATA SUBJECT

1. INFORMATION, CORRECTION, DELETION, RESTRICTION AND THE RIGHT TO BE FORGOTTEN

You can obtain information from us at any time and free of charge about whether personal data relating to you is being processed by us and also specifically which data about you is being stored, as well as request a copy of the stored data. You can also have incorrect data corrected and completed.

You can also request the deletion and restriction of your personal data.

2. DATE PORTABILITY

Where applicable, you also have the right to have the personal data concerning you transferred to you or to another controller in a structured, commonly used and machine-readable format, provided that the processing is based on consent or a contract and is carried out using automated means. However, this does not apply if the processing is necessary for the performance of a task carried out in the public interest or in the exercise of official authority vested in the controller. You also have the right to obtain the direct transfer of personal data from one controller to another controller, where technically feasible and provided that this does not adversely affect the rights and freedoms of other persons.

3. REVOCATION / OBJECTION

You have the right to withdraw your consent at any time by sending a message to the contact details above.

You can object to the processing of your personal data for the purpose of direct advertising at any time by sending a corresponding message to datenschutz@axelspringer.de or Axel-Springer-Str. 65 in 10888 Berlin, without incurring any costs other than the transmission costs according to the basic rates.

Furthermore, you have the right to object at any time, on grounds relating to your particular situation, to the processing of personal data concerning you which is carried out on the basis of a legitimate or public interest. We will no longer process the personal data in the event of an objection, unless we can demonstrate compelling legitimate grounds for the processing which override your interests, rights and freedoms, or the processing serves to assert, exercise or defend legal claims.

4. RIGHT OF COMPLAINT

You also have the right to complain to the competent supervisory authority and to seek legal redress. The supervisory authority to which the complaint has been submitted will inform the complainant of the status and outcome of the complaint, including the possibility of a judicial remedy.

 

5. EXISTENCE OF AUTOMATED DECISION-MAKING

We do not use automatic decision-making or profiling within the meaning of Art. 22 DSGVO.

III. JOURNALISM SCHOOL / TECH PROGRAM

1. APPLICATION

If you apply for our School of Journalism or our Tech Program, you will be redirected to our application portal. To provide our services, we use the services of SmartRecruiters GmbH, Wilhelmstraße 118, 10963 Berlin (hereinafter “SmartRecruiters”), with whom we have concluded a processing agreement (Art. 28 DSGVO). We remain responsible for the processing of personal data carried out via this service in accordance with Art. 4 No. 7 DSGVO, unless otherwise stated in this data protection declaration. we process the personal data transmitted by you for the purpose of carrying out the application procedure. The legal basis for this is Art. 88 Para. 1 DSGVO in conjunction with § 26 Para.1, Para. 8 S. 2 BDSG.

2. REGISTRATION

We also offer you the opportunity to register with our school of journalism. If you make use of this option, we will process the personal data you provide as part of the registration process for the purpose of informing you by e-mail about the next start of your application. The legal basis for data processing is Art. 6 Para. 1 lit. b DSGVO.

 

3. COOKIE SETTINGS AND DATA PROTECTION PREFERENCE CENTRE / SMARTRECRUITERS

When you first visit our application or registration portal, a SmartRecruiters window opens in which you have the option, by making the appropriate settings, to give SmartRecruiters and the third-party partners used by SmartRecruiters your consent to the storage and/or retrieval of information in your device in accordance with Section 25 (1) TTDSG and to the processing of personal data for specific purposes in accordance with Article 6 (1) a DSGVO or to refuse this in each case. The settings you make in the cookie settings are stored in a cookie on your end device.

SmartRecruiters and/or the third-party partners used by SmartRecruiters are responsible for data processing pursuant to Art. 4 No. 7 DSGVO. Further information on SmartRecruiters and the third-party partners used by SmartRecruiters, the cookies and comparable technologies used, as well as the data processing carried out via these and your rights as a data subject can be found under the link “Cookie settings” in the footer of the portal. There you also have the option of revoking any consent you have given.

 

IV. NEWSLETTER

If you have ordered one of our mailings or newsletters, we process your e-mail address in order to send you the newsletter you have ordered. The legal basis for data processing is Art. 6 Para. 1 lit. a DSGVO. You can revoke your consent at any time with effect for the future or unsubscribe from the newsletter you have ordered, e.g. by clicking on the unsubscribe link provided for this purpose in each newsletter.

 

V. WEB ANALYSIS SERVICES

In the interest and for the purpose of analysing the use of our website and improving it on the basis of the information obtained, we use the web analysis service Matomo.

We operate Matomo in a version that does not require cookies. Therefore, no Matomo cookies are stored on your computer for the purpose of web analysis. For the analysis of website usage, your IP address and information such as time stamp, visited web pages and your language settings are recorded. We store the information collected in this way on our server.

This website uses Matomo with the extension “AnonymizeIP”. This means that IP addresses are processed in a shortened form and a direct link to a person is excluded. The IP address transmitted by your browser via Matomo is not merged with other data collected by us.

The legal basis for data processing is Art. 6 para. 1 lit. f DS-GVO.

The Matomo programme is an open source project. Information from the third-party provider on data protection can be found at www.matomo.org/privacy-policy/.

VI. SOCIAL MEDIA

1. SOCIAL PLUGINS

There are no social media plugins integrated on this website that directly load data from the servers of the relevant social media providers. The integrated “plugins” are rather simple links to the relevant third-party sites, which we illustrate with corresponding graphics. A transmission of personal data to the operator of the social media service through the known plugins therefore does not take place.

2. FACEBOOK FANPAGE

We use Facebook fanpages, for which we are jointly responsible with Meta Platforms Ireland Limited. In joint responsibility with Facebook, we analyse how you use our fanpage (page insights). You can obtain the information required by the GDPR on data processing within the scope of Page Insights from Meta; currently by name in Meta’s data protection information at https://www.facebook.com/legal/terms/information_about_page_insights_data.

Facebook also provides you with the relevant contents of the joint processing agreement concluded between Facebook and us in accordance with Art. 26 DSGVO; currently at the following link: https://www.facebook.com/legal/terms/page_controller_addendum.

You may exercise your right to complain to and seek redress from any supervisory authority having jurisdiction over you.

According to the GDPR, you have the right to object to the processing of your data. You can find out more about this and other data subject rights in the Facebook data protection information linked above.

For Page Insights on our Facebook fan pages, Meta Platforms Ireland Limited, 4 Grand Canal Square, Dublin 2, Ireland acts as a common point of contact and processes all requests to exercise data subject rights.

Within the scope of Page Insights, we ourselves only receive anonymised statistics – we have no access to personal data processed by Facebook. The processing of the anonymised data by us is based on legal regulations that allow us to process personal data because we have an overriding legitimate interest in gaining a better understanding of the interests of the visitors to our Fanpage (Art. 6 para. 1 lit. f DSGVO).

Facebook offers various community functions on the fan pages with which you can interact with other users, for example by posting articles, leaving comments or liking or sharing articles. We would like to point out that these areas are publicly accessible and that all personal information that you enter or provide when registering can be viewed by others. We cannot control how other users of the fan pages use this information. In particular, we cannot prevent unsolicited messages from being sent to you.

 

3. INSTAGRAM

We use components of the service Instagram. Instagram is a service that qualifies as an audiovisual platform and allows users to share photos and videos and also to redistribute such data in other social networks. The operator of Instagram is Meta Platforms Ireland Limited, 4 Grand Canal Square, Dublin 2, Ireland (hereinafter Instagram). Further information and the applicable privacy policy of Instagram can be found at https://help.instagram.com/519522125107875/?helpref=hc_fnav.

However, this website does not integrate Instagram in such a way that data is loaded directly from Instagram’s servers. The embedded Instagram links are rather simple links to the respective Instagram pages, which we ourselves only display with corresponding graphics. A transmission of personal data to the operator of Instagram therefore does not take place.
